Right now this is a one-page site with a single job: to let you know when the Kickstarter opens. So this policy is short, because we barely collect anything.
When we launch a store and start taking pledges, we'll expand this page to match. Until then, here's the whole picture.
Who we are
“Beg to Differ” (“we”, “us”) runs this site to build a launch list ahead of our Kickstarter campaign. If you have any question about your data, email us at hello@begtodiffergame.com and a real person will answer.
What we collect
Only what you type into the signup box:
- Your email address.
- Which form you used (top of the page or the bottom) and the page's address, so we know where sign-ups come from.
We don't ask for your name, and we don't build a profile on you. There's a hidden anti-spam field on the form that real people never see or fill in ~ it exists only to catch bots, and we don't store anything from it. Separately, and only if you allow it, we collect anonymous analytics about how the site is used ~ see Cookies & analytics below.
The same goes for our online version at play.begtodiffergame.com: after a few rounds it asks for your email, and that address joins the same list under the same terms.
Why we collect it
To email you about the launch: first notice when the Kickstarter goes live, early-supporter offers, and the occasional update worth opening. That's it. We won't email you about unrelated things, and we won't sell or rent your address to anyone.
Where it's stored
Sign-ups are saved to a private Google Sheet and, if we're using an email service to send the launch note, to that provider's system. These companies process the data on our behalf and aren't allowed to use it for their own purposes. Data may be stored on servers outside your country, including in the United States.
How long we keep it
Until the campaign is over and you've heard from us, or until you ask us to remove you ~ whichever comes first. When we no longer need your address, we delete it.
Your choices
You're in control:
- Unsubscribe from any email we send using the link in it.
- Ask to see, correct, or delete what we hold ~ just email hello@begtodiffergame.com and we'll take care of it.
Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in Europe or the CCPA in California), you may have additional rights over your data. We're happy to honour them ~ the same email address reaches us.
Cookies, analytics & advertising
When you first visit, a small banner asks whether we may use analytics and advertising cookies. If you choose Allow, two things run: Google Analytics, to understand how the site is used ~ which pages get read, where visitors arrive from, and whether the signup form gets used ~ and the Meta (Facebook) Pixel, which helps us see whether our ads led people here and measure signups from those ads. If you decline, Google Analytics doesn't load at all, and the Meta Pixel ~ whose code is present on every page in Meta's consent-revoked mode ~ sets no cookies and sends no events. The site works exactly the same either way. We remember your answer so the banner doesn't nag.
Analytics data is aggregated and doesn't identify you personally. Google and Meta process this data on our behalf and it may be stored on servers outside your country, including in the United States. Meta may use pixel data as described in its own privacy policy, including matching visits to Facebook or Instagram accounts. We never sell this data.
Changed your mind? Reset your cookie choice and the banner will ask again.
Beyond that, your browser may cache fonts and images to load the page faster, which is standard and stores nothing about you.
Changes
If this policy changes ~ most likely when we open pledges ~ we'll update the date at the top. Material changes that affect how we use your email will be flagged to the list before they take effect.
